Autism Walk

The Autism Walk was a great success! On September 30th, over 130 people traveled from Muskegon and Kent Counties in three tour busses to the Detroit Zoo for the Autism Speaks Walk.  Before boarding the bus, a complimentary continental breakfast was provided by Big Apple Bagels, Brooklyn Bagels, Goobers donuts and Sam’s Club. Once we were all awake, (we left at 5:00 a.m.)  the Emcee on each bus entertained the groups with games and prizes. It was a great opportunity to make new friends, get to know your co-workers, spend time with family and support a worthy cause.

Over $8500 was raised in donations, in-kind services and pledges for the trip and for Autism Speaks through this group alone. Walk Now for Autism events in Southeast Michigan and Cleveland raised over one million dollars and attracted over 13,000 participants! All of this money goes to research.

Our thanks goes out to all of the walkers for their willing participation, The MOKA Board for their support, Thomas Zmolek for his vision and leadership, our emcees’, Cheryl Ferris, Larry Larson Jr., and Christine Wierengo. All of you helped to make this a fantastic day!
