The MOKA Foundation
The MOKA Board of Directors is committed to support individuals with disabilities beyond the direct services we provide. The MOKA Foundation was created on October 24, 2001 with a mission to provide education, advocacy, and resources on behalf of individuals with disabilities.
The Foundation’s first outreach tool Life Goal Planning assists individuals to create “My Life Goal Plan” with their family. Individuals create a vision for their dreams and aspirations for the life they want to lead. It’s never too early to start the planning process and the document takes this big process, suggested to take 3 months or more, and breaks it down into manageable pieces. Areas covered include: Community Building, Housing, Employment Options, Independent Living, Financial Security, and Legal Concerns. The success, direction and peace of mind that Life Goal Planning created led the workshop with the study guide to now be offered as a regular service of MOKA through our Transition Coordinator. Call our Transition Coordinator at (800) 644-2434 ext. 620 for more information.
Years ago when the Foundation began they were committed to the principle below and invite you, our staff, consumers, their families and guardians, our community partners, vendors, teachers, alumni, and friends to commit by sharing your time, talents and treasure with us and together we can:
- Support the dignity and worth of each individual with a disability.
- Advocate on behalf of the individuals MOKA serves, their parents, guardians and stakeholders.
- Support developments within the mental health field for individuals with disabilities. Examples that we have or continue to support are self-determination, person centered planning and gentle teaching.
- Support social, recreational and educational activities for individuals supported by MOKA but not funded through other sources.
- Maintain, improve and replace MOKA properties and infrastructure through funding physical plant projects and technological improvements.
- Share our stories with individuals, corporations and foundations so we can explore the relationship to discover if their passion matches our mission for support through annual gifts, capital project, or planned gift.
- Establish unrestricted, restricted and endowment funds. Use interest earned to support existing activities or corporation or foundation sponsored activities.
- Develop relationships with community leaders and partners.
