MOKA has completed filming an episode of Viewpoint, a noteworthy public television series that highlights important social issues and innovative solutions. The episode, hosted by renowned actor Dennis Quaid, will be distributed in April on Public Television stations nationwide. We look forward to having the chance to share our mission and highlight the significance of the work we do every day on a national scale. As we eagerly await the airing of the episode, we wanted to share some details on who (and what) you will see when this episode makes its debut!

This episode will feature launch pad sites, volunteer locations, and interviews with a number of special guests including Kurt Rasch, Tracey Hamlet (MOKA), and Todd Culver (Incompass Michigan). As experts in their fields, our guests share their thoughts on the importance of integration and MOKA’s mission of a fully inclusive community.

Kurt’s lived experience as a person with a disability gives him a unique and powerful perspective to share. Kurt has participated in MOKA’s services, as well as other programs in West MI like Artists Creating Together, for years. Thanks to photos from Supervisor of Community Supports, Tasha Oltman, and the spectacular Viewpoint film crew – you will get a glimpse into Kurt’s experiences as he shares his thoughts on how he stays involved in the community, what he believes MOKA does well, and how MOKA programs make him feel. Kurt regularly connects with Residential Coordinator, Ousman Fofana, who you will also see in the Viewpoint episode. We could not be more grateful for Kurt, Ousman, and Tasha’s participation in this project.

Tracey Hamlet lends her expert opinion as the Executive Director of MOKA. With over 30 years of experience in Direct Care, Hamlet shares her thoughts on what makes MOKA special, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and honoring the uniqueness of every person we serve. She believes that the process of building connections and strengthening relationships is an integral part of creating a thriving and inclusive community.

Todd Culver is the President and CEO of Incompass Michigan, an organization working to empower members to achieve their missions through advocacy, innovation, education, and leadership development. Leading a team that affects thousands of individuals across the state of Michigan, Culver sees first-hand what functions are necessary to create a healthy and inclusive society. We are extremely grateful to Culver for participating in this important project and for sharing his thoughts as a leading expert in the healthcare field.

The video will also feature a MOKA Community Supports group volunteering at Fellinlove Farm, one of our nonprofit partners in Allegan County. Fellinlove Farm has cultivated a space where people can experience unique and diverse animals and nature in a safe, hands-on environment.  Owned and operated by the Kaletka family, Fellinlove Farm has been in operation since 2012 and is a favorite volunteer location of the people MOKA serves! See if you can spot any of the animals on their “can you find them all” map when watching our video!
